Blackbird is an independent,
creative Employee Benefits Agency.

We celebrate the people who believe in better.

Our Mission

Blackbird is proud to be a woman-owned, mission-driven,
B Corp Employee Benefits agency.

We were born from the realization that traditional benefits models, well, left something to be desired. Cost savings replaced compassion. Cookie cutter overshadowed community. People became numbers (or rather “human capital”).

(This feels like the right time to tell you that we truly loathe the term “human capital”. You might as well call them “livestock”…)

These are people… thinkers, doers, lovers and fighters. Each one a unique and magical creature with their own personal values and needs. And that’s pretty amazing.

So, we departed from the dusty old convention and formed Blackbird Benefits Collective, a unique business partner that places value in bringing strategy, human connection, and a whole lot of heart to your benefits program.

What We Do

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, EAP, FSA / HSA / HRA. We work with all key players both local and nationally.

  • It’s Portland. We walk, bike, skate, and now apparently, we scoot. It’s inevitable we’re going to bump into, or fall off, something at some point. We’ll help you put benefits in place to cover the bills while you get back on your feet (or wheels).

  • Driven by human connection. (Don’t worry, there are still all the apps and web tools too…)

  • We’ve got you covered with regular updates, checklists, and vendor partners to keep you on the right side of the DOL.

  • If you’re anything like us, you hate to leave money on the table (or generally light it on fire). We’ll show you creative ways to take more control (without taking more risk).

  • What could be worse than dealing with a serious health condition, than getting a notice your bills aren’t covered? We’ll help by taking that burden off your plate and working fiercely to get you resolution.

  • Because one size doesn’t fit all, and everyone receives information differently.

  • Your top executives have a different set of needs, and we’ll help you find Solutions to ensure they’re fully protected.

Our Values

We celebrate the people who believe in better. Blackbird Benefits Collective is committed to partnering with organizations that are catalysts for positive impact. Equity, inclusion and environmental advocacy are causes close to our hearts and deeply rooted in our principles. We will never place profit over integrity. In fact, our goals for business growth are driven by the idea that our financial success allows us to invest in the best resources for our awesome clients, and give more to under-served communities.

As an organization, we stand against anti-Black racism and all forms of oppression including transphobia, classism, sexism, and xenophobia. We commit to focused and sustained action to dismantle racist systems, policies, practices, and ideologies within ourselves and our networks. As we continue to learn about injustice, we embrace radical reorientation of our consciousness and will listen to the voices of Black, Brown, Indigenous and marginalized peoples to catalyze equitable outcomes for all.

We believe unequivocally that BLACK LIVES MATTER.
